Dubai Police Concludes Specialised Course on Interviewing Child Victims of Violence

Dubai: The Dubai Police, through the General Department of Human Rights, has concluded a specialised training course titled “Interviewing Child Victims of Violence.”

The course was organised under the annual training plan of the Child and Women Protection Department, aimed at strengthening the skills of professionals involved in child protection and investigations across Dubai.

A total of 58 specialists took part, representing Dubai Police, the Ministry of Health and Prevention, social support centres across the UAE, the Ministry of Interior’s Child Protection Centre, and the Community Development Authority. The training was designed to prepare duty officers, their assistants, investigators, and field specialists with modern tools and methods to work with child victims of violence in scientific and humane ways that respect their psychological and social needs.

Over several days, the course covered key topics including the psychological development of children, presented by Major Muhammad Suleiman Al Duwyani from the General Department of Forensics and Criminology. His session highlighted the psychological effects of violence on children, ways to support them effectively, and case studies to illustrate best practices.

In addition, Dr Mahmoud Al Shayeb from the Community Development Authority led sessions on the responsibilities of law enforcement agencies, legal procedures for protecting children’s rights, and methods for implementing these measures in line with international agreements. He also emphasised the importance of partnership between the state and the family, and explored effective techniques for interviewing child victims of violence, supported by real case studies.
