Global Sports Relay Race Icon \'Hood to Coast\' Debuts in Dubai to Unite Communities Through Sport

Dubai: Dubai will host the Middle East debut of one of the world’s most iconic relay races, Hood to Coast, globally renowned as “The Mother of All Relays.” Scheduled for January 10, 2026, at Al Marmoom Desert Conservation Reserve, the event is supported by the Dubai Sports Council (DSC) and aims to unite citizens, residents, and visitors through sport, endurance, and teamwork, strengthening community bonds while promoting an active and inclusive lifestyle.

A Global Legacy Meets Dubai’s Spirit

Originating in Oregon, USA, in 1982, Hood to Coast has become the world’s largest and most recognized relay series, attracting over 80,000 runners annually. Following successful editions in China and Europe, Dubai now joins the global Hood to Coast family, reflecting the city’s journey as a symbol of innovation, diversity, and community connection.

This community-driven relay celebrates teamwork and friendship as teams of three to five runners, supported by one 4x4 vehicle, cover a 100 km+ route across Dubai’s desert, passing through natural reserves, shimmering lakes, and majestic sand dunes.

Journey Through Dubai’s Heritage

Participants will traverse the Al Marmoom Conservation Reserve, showcasing Dubai’s commitment to sustainability and nature preservation. Teams will weave through Flamingo Lake, Al Qudra Lake, and the golden sand dunes, passing Dubai Solar Park, before crossing the finish line amidst wildlife and natural scenery.

Along the route, runners may encounter Dubai’s rich biodiversity, including Reem and Demani the gazelle, Maha the Arabian Oryx, and the Ghaf tree, the UAE’s national symbol of resilience and coexistence.

Community Strengthening

Hood to Coast Dubai actively supports the UAE National Sports Strategy 2031, which seeks to broaden participation in sport, encourage lifelong physical activity, and foster communities that value healthy lifestyles. The event also aligns with Dubai Social Agenda 33 and the Dubai Economic Agenda D33, advancing objectives to enhance public health, improve quality of life, and position Dubai among the world’s top cities for living and working.

“Dubai’s readiness to host world-class sporting events reflects the competence of our national talents and the city’s continuous development across all sectors in line with international standards,” said Saeed Hareb, Secretary General of Dubai Sports Council.

The launch of Hood to Coast Dubai coincides with the UAE’s celebration of 2025 as the Year of Community, emphasizing inclusive spaces that foster collaboration, belonging, and shared experiences. Designed to connect people of all ages, nationalities, and cultural backgrounds, the event will help participants discover communities that share their passions and strengthen local connections.

All-Round Impact

Hood to Coast Dubai is expected to enhance the city’s sports tourism ecosystem by attracting participants and supporters from across the region and beyond. The event will:

Boost hotel occupancy and visitor spending across hospitality, retail, and F&B sectors.
Create temporary and permanent jobs in event operations, logistics, and related services.
Amplify Dubai’s global visibility as a destination for sustainable, community-led sports events.
Encourage repeat visitation and longer stays through integrated tourism packages and community experiences.
