Dubai: In a warm and uplifting ceremony, the Guru Nanak Darbar Gurudwara Dubai hosted the official launch of SEWA – The Road to Salvation, the latest book by Dr. Surender Singh Kandhari. The evening radiated unity, compassion, and reflection — values that lie at the very heart of the book.

The event was graced by distinguished guests and well-wishers including Ahmed Khalfan Al Mansouri, Haji Syed Salman Chishty, Mirza Al Sayegh, Adilson Parrella, Ranjit Singh OBE, Arno Krimmer, and several other dignitaries, whose presence added significance to the occasion.

Dr. Kandhari, who previously authored Temple of My Dreams, Lighthouse of Tolerance, ONE – The Spiritual Search, and Reflections 101, described his new work as “not just another publication, but a part of my life—the unfolding of a philosophy that has shaped my entire journey.”

A Tribute to Faith, Legacy, and Service

The book carries a deeply meaningful dedication, honouring the 350th Shaheedi Divas of Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib Ji and remembering his supreme sacrifice for religious freedom and human dignity. It also includes an intimate personal tribute to Dr. Kandhari’s grandfather, who instilled in him the values of SEWA — a legacy he now hopes his grandchildren will carry forward “with love, compassion, humility, and grace.”

Opening with the definition “SEWA means Serving Everyone Without Appreciation,” the book explores the philosophy of unconditional service — giving without desire, expectation, or recognition. Dr. Kandhari emphasized that SEWA has never been a theory to him, but a lived experience shaped by spiritual influences and global interactions.

He recalled lessons from his engagements with world spiritual leaders such as Mahant Swami Maharaj, Swami Brahmavihari Das, Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, Sadhguru, Pope Francis, Pope Leo XIV, Russell M. Nelson, and Dallin H. Oaks. Each, he said, reinforced the universal truth that service transcends borders, cultures, and beliefs.

Memories That Shaped the Mission

Reflecting on his journey, Dr. Kandhari spoke of his childhood, the founding of the Guru Nanak Darbar Gurudwara in Dubai, and experiences serving communities during moments of both crisis and hope. He quoted a line from the book that resonated with many in the audience:
“True sewa is silent. It does not announce itself or seek applause. The act itself is the reward.”

In heartfelt gratitude, he acknowledged the unwavering support of his wife, Bubbles Kandhari, describing her compassion and wisdom as pillars of every seva initiative. He also expressed appreciation to those who contributed messages and letters of support for the book.

During the event, H.E. Mirza Al Sayegh offered a touching reflection on the historic ties between India and the UAE, stating:
“The relationship between India and the UAE is rooted in mutual respect, shared values, and a legacy of trusted friendship. This book on SEWA is not just written — it is poured from the heart. It reflects the spirit of service and humanity that both our nations hold dear, strengthening the bridge of unity between our peoples.”

His words added depth and warmth to an already meaningful evening, highlighting how compassion and service form universal bridges between cultures.

A Gift of SEWA

As the gathering drew to a close, Dr. Kandhari offered a simple prayer:
“Let every morning begin with the question: Where can I serve today?”

In keeping with the book’s message, Dr. Kandhari announced that SEWA – The Road to Salvation will be available free of cost at Guru Nanak Darbar Gurudwara Dubai. The offering, he said, is made “solely as an act of SEWA, with no commercial purpose or obligation attached.”

The evening concluded with warmth, humility, and a renewed sense of shared purpose — a reminder that SEWA begins in the heart and extends outward, transforming lives one act of kindness at a time.
