Sharjah: Sharjah Police concluded its "Be Aware" awareness campaign, organised by the General Department of Criminal Security and Ports in cooperation with the Security Media Department, and in partnership with Sharjah Islamic Bank (SIB) as a strategic partner. The campaign targeted various segments of society to raise awareness about the dangers and methods of online fraud and extortion.

The campaign benefited 8,030,050 members of the community from all walks of life, achieving a 98% satisfaction rate. This was accomplished over a full month of diverse events and activities, including interactive platforms, a marathon, social media competitions, and the distribution of awareness publications and brochures bearing the campaign's messages and slogans.

Brigadier General Omar Ahmed Bu Al-Zoud, Director General of Criminal Security and Ports at SPGC, affirmed that the campaign embodies Sharjah Police's commitment to establishing the concept of digital prevention by empowering community members with the necessary knowledge to confront sophisticated fraud methods in the digital space. He emphasised the importance of raising awareness in protecting personal data and reducing extortion crimes.

Simulating real-life scenarios
For his part, Brigadier General Dr Mohammed Butti Al-Hajri, Director of the Security Media Department at SPGC, explained that the fourth edition of the campaign was presented in a narrative format that simulates real-life scenarios of extortion and electronic fraud cases. These scenarios were presented in a visual style that resonated with reality and depicted the challenges facing the digital community.

Sharjah Police urged community members to report any cases of extortion or threats by calling 999 for emergencies or 901 for general inquiries.
