Dubai Women Prioritising Fertility Awareness, Early Testing and Egg Freezing, Says Specialist
- June 09, 2026
Dubai: Fertility is no longer a topic discussed only when couples face difficulties conceiving. Across Dubai, more women are seeking fertility assessments earlier, exploring egg freezing options, and making informed decisions about their reproductive health as they balance careers, financial goals, and personal aspirations.
According to Dr. Sreelatha Gopalakrishnan, Specialist in Infertility and Reproductive Medicine, Obstetrics and Gynecology at Almond Blossoms Fertility & Wellbeing Center in Dubai Healthcare City, awareness about fertility is steadily increasing among women in the UAE.
Speaking about the changing landscape, Dr. Sreelatha said one of the most common misconceptions is that fertility is determined solely by age.
“Fertility is multifactorial. Biology, genetics, lifestyle, stress levels, hormonal health, and environmental factors all influence reproductive health,” she explained.
She also highlighted that regular menstrual cycles do not necessarily indicate normal fertility, emphasizing the importance of comprehensive reproductive health assessments.
Growing Interest in AMH Testing
A key trend emerging in Dubai is the growing awareness of Anti-Müllerian Hormone (AMH) testing, a blood test used to evaluate ovarian reserve. Fertility specialists are increasingly encouraging women, particularly those planning to delay motherhood, to undergo testing from their mid-20s onward.
“Women routinely monitor their fitness, nutrition, and overall health, but reproductive health is often overlooked until much later,” Dr. Sreelatha noted.
Egg Freezing Becoming Part of Reproductive Planning
Once considered uncommon, egg freezing is increasingly being embraced by women in Dubai as a proactive fertility preservation strategy.
Professionals, entrepreneurs, women navigating relationship timelines, and those facing medical conditions are among those considering the procedure to preserve future reproductive options.
“Egg freezing is not about guarantees; it is about creating choices for the future,” Dr. Sreelatha said.
She added that fertility preservation is not solely driven by lifestyle considerations. Medical conditions such as endometriosis, hormonal disorders, and cancer treatments can also make early fertility preservation an important healthcare decision.
IVF Not Always the First Option
Addressing another common misconception, Dr. Sreelatha stressed that fertility challenges do not automatically lead to in vitro fertilisation (IVF).
“IVF is one of many treatment options and is not where fertility care begins,” she said.
Initial assessments typically include hormonal evaluations, ovulation tracking, lifestyle reviews, and fertility testing for both partners. Many couples are able to conceive naturally or with minimal intervention once underlying issues are identified and treated.
She also pointed out that male-factor infertility plays a significant role in many cases, although women often continue to bear the emotional burden associated with fertility struggles.
Emotional Wellbeing a Key Part of Fertility Care
Experts say fertility journeys can involve significant emotional challenges, including stress, uncertainty, and disappointment. As a result, fertility centres are increasingly integrating counselling and psychological support into treatment plans.
At Almond Blossoms Fertility & Wellbeing Center, emotional wellness services are offered alongside reproductive care to support patients throughout the process.
“Fertility is not only a medical issue; it is a deeply personal and emotional experience,” Dr. Sreelatha said.
Shift Towards Proactive Fertility Planning
Healthcare professionals are observing a broader shift in attitudes toward reproductive health in the UAE. More women are seeking information, testing, and consultations before encountering fertility challenges, making fertility awareness an important part of overall health planning.
“Awareness does not accelerate motherhood; it expands a woman’s ability to make informed choices,” Dr. Sreelatha said.
The trend reflects a growing willingness among women in Dubai to openly discuss fertility, explore available options, and take a proactive approach to reproductive health.
