Dubai: Dubai Police has officially joined the International Council on Alcohol, Drugs and Traffic Safety Society (ICADTS), marking a significant step in the UAE’s efforts to strengthen global partnerships in the field of road safety. 

The move comes following the appointment of His Excellency Major General Ahmad Thani bin Ghalita Al Muhairi, Director of the General Department of Forensic Science and Criminology at Dubai Police, as a council member—formally designating Dubai Police as the official representative of the UAE within this prestigious international body.

The membership underscores the UAE’s commitment to promoting traffic safety and reducing the risks posed by alcohol, drugs, and other psychoactive substances on road users. It also reinforces Dubai Police’s leadership in forensic science and traffic safety innovation.

As part of his new role, Major General bin Ghalita has received an official invitation to participate in the 24th ICADTS International Meeting, to be held in Portugal in June 2025. He will present a scientific paper titled: “The Role of Forensic Science in Detecting Drugs, Psychoactive Substances, and Alcohol for Road Safety and Achieving Dubai’s 2030 Vision.”

The paper will highlight the critical role of forensic science in identifying the impact of controlled substances on drivers and its direct relevance to Dubai’s Strategic Vision 2030—an ambitious plan that aims to make Dubai one of the safest cities in the world.

Major General bin Ghalita affirmed that road safety remains a top priority for the Dubai Government and stressed that Dubai Police’s involvement in ICADTS will facilitate valuable knowledge exchange and international collaboration.

“Joining this global council enhances our ability to share expertise, learn from best practices, and contribute to the global dialogue on traffic safety. It supports the UAE’s vision of leading international safety and security indicators,” he said.
