Dubai: Dubai Police, represented by the General Department of Transport and Rescue, in collaboration with Emirates Foundation and Dubai Corporation for Ambulance Services, has organised a specialised training course for volunteers of the Emirates Foundation’s SANID Programme titled “Swiftwater Rescue.” 

The five-day course welcomed 17 participants and focused on modern rescue methodologies and techniques, operational control and coordination in the field, and preparing trainees to meet the highest standards of safety and rapid response. The training- the first of its kind for SANID volunteers in this field -also included practical scenarios simulating real-life flash floods and torrents.

Captain Marwan Al Kaabi, Head of the Marine Rescue Section at the Search and Rescue Department, said the swift water course for SANID volunteers represents a qualitative step in training and preparing Emirati volunteers. He stressed that the initiative reflects Dubai Police’s commitment to enhancing community teams’ readiness to face challenges related to natural disasters.

“We were keen in this course to transfer the latest field rescue techniques and implement scenarios that mirror reality, ensuring trainees are equipped to handle emergencies to the highest international standards. This initiative is not only about sharpening volunteer skills, but also about reinforcing teamwork and integration between community volunteer groups, police, and rescue units, all contributing to the protection of lives and property,” he added.

He further emphasised that holding this course for SANID volunteers for the first time is a milestone in joint cooperation, adding value by building well-trained support teams capable of responding effectively when disasters and emergencies occur.
