Dubai Police dazzle Visitors on the Opening Day of the AccessAbilities Expo

Dubai: The Dubai Police, represented by the People of Determination Empowerment Council, showcased its vital security, traffic, community, and criminal-related services tailored for people of determination at its stand during the seventh edition of the ‘AccessAbilities Expo’.

The event kicked off today (Monday) at the Dubai World Trade Centre and will continue for three days.

Major Abdullah Hamad Al Shamsi, Chairperson of the People of Determination Empowerment Council, emphasized that Dubai Police's participation in the exhibition reflects our unwavering commitment to supporting and empowering this community. He emphasized the crucial role the police play in promoting inclusion and social equity.

Al Shamsi stated, "Through our participation, we aim to demonstrate our achievements in empowering people of determination in the workplace and the services we provide to the community. This commitment ensures justice and equality while reinforcing our goals of inclusion and empowerment. We are dedicated to developing a comprehensive system that meets their needs, adhering to the highest global standards and practices in this field."

Major Mohammed Al Mazrouei, Vice Chairman of the Dubai Police People of Determination Empowerment Council, noted that the Council's participation in the exhibition focuses on showcasing the smart solutions and innovative technological initiatives developed by Dubai Police. “These initiatives aim to enhance the quality of life for people of determination and promote comprehensive empowerment across various levels,” he added.

Al Mazrouei underscored the Dubai Police's commitment to integrating people of determination into the institutional work environment by improving infrastructure to support full inclusion. He indicated that this approach actively seeks to eliminate barriers in all forms, fostering a more inclusive and sustainable work environment.

‘Khalid’ for People of Determination

One of the standout services featured on the stand is the ‘Khalid’ magazine, published by the Security Media Department of Dubai Police. The special edition of the Khalid magazine coincides with the AccessAbilities Expo and is dedicated to promoting the values of tolerance, coexistence, and inclusion within society. It opens with a heartfelt message that emphasizes the essential role of people of determination in our daily lives, both at home and in schools, highlighting their abilities and potential while affirming their right to support and respect.

Ms. Zainab Hussein Nasser, the magazine's Manager-in-Chief, shared, "In our commitment to raising awareness about people of determination for future generations, we have prepared a special edition featuring stories and real experiences from students in Dubai schools. They share how they interact with their peers with determination and the lessons they've learned about cooperation and solidarity. This issue also includes an insightful discussion on Down syndrome, narrated through the story of student Sultan and his friend Saif. Additionally, it features a field report on a visit to the Emirates Down Syndrome Association, showcasing the remarkable rehabilitation and vocational services they provide."

She continued, “The special edition includes ‘Khalid and the Brainy’ adventure at the Innovations Expo for People of Determination, along with pages filled with entertainment and interactive educational activities. We also published a fun educational booklet designed to introduce children to the world of people of determination in a simplified and engaging manner. This booklet tells the story of a visually impaired child named "Saber" and his friend "Waleed" as they explore the skills and potential of children with visual, auditory, and intellectual disabilities. It features activities like coloring, goalball, and sign language, emphasizing acceptance and appreciation of differences.”

Ghiath

In a humanitarian gesture that reflects loyalty and appreciation for our heroes in the field, the General Department of Training and the General Department of Transport and Rescue have cooperated to create a virtual simulation program for Corporal Murad Abbas Murad Al Balooshi. This initiative enables him to step back into the role of patrol leader following the tragic incident he faced while on duty.

Designed in the "Ghiath" patrol, the program enables Corporal Murad to drive security patrols once again. This offers him a valuable opportunity to reconnect with his field duties, rebuild his confidence, and support his journey toward recovery and empowerment.

Nasser Al Nourani: A Story of 30 Years of Support and Inclusion in Dubai Police

Nasser Mohammed Al Nourani wasn’t born blind; he gradually lost his sight by the age of 16 due to genetic factors related to consanguineous marriage.

During the 1980s and 1990s, awareness of the inclusion and empowerment of individuals with determination in educational and professional settings was minimal. This made the challenges Nasser faced even more formidable, particularly given the limited technologies and resources available for specific disabilities. Despite these challenges, he approached his education with remarkable determination, ultimately becoming the top student in the literary stream at the national level for boys in high school exams."

Nasser recalled, "In my early school years, my vision was weak, and it deteriorated further as I turned 16. It became increasingly difficult to read and memorize without my mother’s assistance. Nonetheless, I excelled in public schools and chose to major in Arabic at UAE University, likely influenced by my late father, Mohammed Al Nourani, a skilled journalist in Sudan and Egypt who contributed to the establishment of Al Bayan newspaper in the early '80s."

Reflecting on his nearly 30-year professional journey, he shared, "Dubai Police welcomed me in 1996, where I began my career at Al Amn Magazine, summarizing books related to policing and security culture with incredible support from my colleagues. I quickly transitioned into the field, writing news articles, conducting interviews, and leading investigations. My focus has been on the rights of people of determination within the legal system—whether they are victims or defendants—exploring their rights and how the law applies to them while highlighting available services and facilities. Today, I continue my journey as an editor for Khalid magazine for children, writing from the perspective of childhood dreams. I believe raising awareness in future generations is vital, allowing me to leave a mark on a generation that lives in a time very different from ours—a generation with opportunities opened by technology that we never dreamed of."

Meanwhile, regarding the support he received from Dubai Police, he emphasized, "Since I began working here, I’ve never felt that my disability was a barrier. I found a supportive and inclusive work environment with accessible programs and initiatives. What started as personal initiatives from colleagues and managers has evolved into a comprehensive system that embodies the leadership’s vision for empowering people of determination. Dubai Police has always set the standard for creating a welcoming work environment based on equality, respect, and equal opportunities."
