From Al Qasba to the Heart of Sharjah: Free boat rides launched for Sharjah Heritage Days visitors
- February 08, 2026
Sharjah: Visitors heading to Sharjah Heritage Days this year can now arrive by water, thanks to a new initiative offering free boat rides that turn the journey itself into part of the cultural experience.
The move, launched by the Sharjah Institute for Heritage, coincides with the festival’s 23rd edition, running from February 4 to 15 across the Heart of Sharjah and other cities and areas of the emirate under the theme *“The Glow of Authenticity.”* Organisers say the initiative is aimed at enhancing visitor comfort while adding a scenic and memorable dimension to getting to the event.
Making access easier
The free marine transport forms part of a wider package of services introduced this year to help visitors reach the festival venues with ease. In addition to the boat rides, organisers have arranged land transport from Dubai, Sharjah and Ajman, helping audiences attend the packed programme of folk performances, heritage exhibitions, traditional craft workshops and cultural activities designed for all age groups.
A journey with a view
The abra boats, branded with the festival’s theme, operate daily from 4pm to 10pm, running back and forth between Al Qasba and the Sharjah Aquarium area, before docking at Al Baghla station beside the Al Qasimia ship in the Heart of Sharjah, where the main festival activities are held.
Along the way, passengers enjoy sweeping views of Sharjah’s waterfront landmarks, passing the Sharjah Courts building, government departments, Al Majaz Amphitheatre, Jubail Market, Al Noor Island and Al Jazirah Park. The route offers visitors a relaxed introduction to the city’s urban and cultural landscape before they even step into the festival grounds.
A heritage welcome by sea
The journey ends at the Al Qasimia ship, a traditional *baghlah* vessel that stands as one of Sharjah’s most recognisable maritime symbols. Built around two decades ago to mirror the wooden ships once used by Emirati sailors for trade and travel, the vessel’s handcrafted details and classic design evoke the emirate’s deep connection to the sea.
For many visitors, arriving at the festival by sea and stepping ashore beside a heritage ship adds an extra layer of authenticity, aligning seamlessly with the spirit and message of Sharjah Heritage Days.
Parking and smooth movement
To further ease access, organisers have also allocated around 150 additional parking spaces near the Sharjah Museum of Islamic Civilization. Golf carts are operating throughout the event to shuttle visitors between parking areas and the festival site, helping to reduce congestion and ensure a smooth flow of movement.
The transport initiative reflects the Sharjah Institute for Heritage’s focus on delivering a well-rounded visitor experience—one that blends thoughtful organisation with cultural storytelling. By turning transport into an extension of the event, the festival reinforces its position as one of the region’s leading heritage celebrations, where tradition is not only displayed, but lived and experienced.
