Brazilian President Lula to Visit India from Feb 18–22, Attend AI Summit
- February 12, 2026
Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva will undertake a state visit to India from February 18 to 22 at the invitation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, marking another important step in the strengthening India–Brazil strategic partnership.
This will be President Lula’s sixth visit to India and comes at a time when both democracies are deepening cooperation on global governance, technology, and engagement with the Global South.
During the five-day trip, President Lula will participate in the second AI Impact Summit scheduled for February 19–20, highlighting the shared commitment of India and Brazil to emerging technologies and inclusive digital growth.
A bilateral summit between Prime Minister Modi and President Lula is set for February 21. The leaders will review the full spectrum of bilateral relations and discuss key regional and global developments. President Lula is also expected to meet President Droupadi Murmu, who will host a state banquet in his honour. Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan and External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar are among senior Indian leaders scheduled to call on the visiting president, underscoring the significance New Delhi places on the visit.
According to India’s Ministry of External Affairs, the Modi–Lula discussions will cover trade, investment, defence, energy, agriculture, health, science and technology, and innovation, along with cooperation in multilateral forums, global governance reforms, and challenges facing the Global South. Prime Minister Modi will also host a luncheon for President Lula after their talks.
The visit will carry a strong economic focus, with around 14 Brazilian ministers and a large delegation of business leaders accompanying the president. Ministers will hold meetings with Indian counterparts, while CEOs will participate in a business forum aimed at expanding trade, investment, and industrial collaboration.
Recent high-level engagements between the two countries include President Lula’s visit to India for the G20 Summit in September 2023 and Prime Minister Modi’s landmark state visit to Brasília in July 2025—the first by an Indian prime minister to Brazil in 57 years. The two leaders also met during the G20 Summit in Johannesburg in November 2025.
India and Brazil have been strategic partners since 2006, sharing democratic values, strong people-to-people ties, and common positions on major global issues such as UN reform, climate change, and counter-terrorism. Cooperation has expanded to digital public infrastructure, artificial intelligence, space, and innovation-driven sectors.
Brazil remains India’s largest trading partner in the Latin America and Caribbean region, with significant untapped potential in renewable energy, critical minerals, rare earths, defence manufacturing, and pharmaceuticals.
Officials believe President Lula’s upcoming visit will help shape a forward-looking agenda for the partnership and further strengthen collaboration at bilateral, regional, and global levels, reinforcing both nations’ roles as leading voices of the Global South amid evolving geopolitical and economic dynamics.
