Abudhabi:This year India is celebrating the 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev ji, the first Sikh Guru and founder of the Sikh faith. The Embassy of India, in collaboration with the Indian Council for Cultural Relations, New Delhi; World Punjabi Organization; India Social & Cultural Centre, Abu Dhabi; entire Sikh Sangat of Abu Dhabi and other community members commemorated the 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev ji on 22nd & 23rd August, 2019 at India Social & Cultural Centre Abu Dhabi.
On 22nd August, evening a seminar & painting exhibition on life & teachings of Guru Nanak Dev ji was inaugurated by the Chief Guest H.E. Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, the Minister of Tolerance of the UAE. During the programme a documentary on Guru Nanak Dev ji was screened & speeches were given by the Chief Guest, the Ambassador of India to UAE H. E Navdeep Suri & by the President, World Punjabi Organization Padamshree Shri Vikramjit Singh Sahney. A lecture on life & teachings of Guru Nanak Dev ji was also given by a scholar from the World Punjabi Organization, Shri Tarlochan Singh.
On 23rd August, 2019 Shabad Kirtan followed by community lunch (langar) & a blood donation camp were organized to spread Guru Nanak Dev ji’s message of peace and universal brotherhood. Ragi Jatha of Bhai Nirmal Singh Khalsa and Giani Ranjit Singh left the audience spell bound with the Shabad Kirtan - a melodious & devotional tribute to Guru Nanak Dev ji. The blood donation camp was organized with kind support of Abu Dhabi Blood Bank and 65 volunteers donated blood on 23rd August to complete a month long blood donation drive held at various locations in Abu Dhabi and Al Ain to bring the total number of blood donations to 550 to commemorate the 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev ji.
