Sharjah:The Higher Steering Committee of the Pink Caravan Ride (PCR)  — the annual breast cancer awareness initiative that travels around the UAE offering free health screenings and medical consultations to both women and men, has made a call to all UAE-based doctors, nurses and other medical staff, as well as hospitals to volunteer for the 10th annual ride, starting February 26, 2020. 

PCR aims to put together a team of specialists in oncology, general medicine, family medicine and radiology, in addition to X-ray technicians and nurses for the upcoming ride. Those community-minded medical practitioners who are keen on leading the ride’s medical route to further the campaign’s efforts to safeguard the nation from the risks and repercussions of breast cancer, can send their applications to https://www.pinkcaravan.ae/join-the-medical-team before February 15. Medical volunteers will be involved in deliversing breast cancer screenings, mammograms and X-rays, in addition to awareness workshops.

For nine years, Sharjah-based civil society organisation, Friends of Cancer Patients (FOCP), has been organising this annual nationwide ride, and the campaign’s medical volunteers have delivered over 64,000 free screenings and consultations to women and men. As PCR marks it’s tenth anniversary, FOCP aims to boost the medical sector’s involvement in the campaign to achieve its goal of delivering 10,000 free medical screenings. 

Several doctors and medical experts have already signed up to volunteer for PCR 2020, according to the ride’s Higher Steering Committee – reflective of the campaign’s success in instilling and promoting a culture of volunteerism in the UAE.
