Dubai Police Marks International Inmate Day with Empowering Activities and Initiatives

Dubai: Dubai Police, through its General Department of Punitive and Correctional Institutions, commemorated International Inmate Day 2025 with a series of educational, cultural, and rehabilitative activities, underscoring the UAE’s commitment to human dignity and second chances.

The event celebrated the ongoing efforts of Dubai Police to rehabilitate inmates and prepare them for a productive return to society. This aligns with the nation’s values of compassion and reform, placing a strong emphasis on support, behavioural change, and social reintegration.

Major General Marwan Julfar, Director of the General Department of Punitive and Correctional Institutions, stated that the occasion embodies noble humanitarian values and strengthens public trust in correctional initiatives. “Marking International Inmate Day is a reaffirmation of our mission to guide inmates toward reform, equip them with skills, and support their reintegration into society as responsible individuals,” he noted.

He added that the department has evolved into an educational and cultural hub for inmates, delivering purposeful programmes that include academic, vocational, cultural, and sports initiatives. These are designed not only to rehabilitate but also to empower inmates with confidence and hope. The programmes, rooted in the philosophy of “the person before the place,” aim to eliminate fear and hesitation about returning to society and to foster self-worth and spiritual resilience alongside physical and intellectual development.

Lieutenant Colonel Dr Khalid Khalifa Al Mazrouei, Acting Director of the Inmate Education and Training Department, said the celebration featured a diverse line-up of activities. These included sports competitions, awareness lectures, and training workshops. One highlight was a chess training session led by Saeed Yousef Abdullah, Secretary-General of the Dubai Chess and Culture Club. Another was a freehand art workshop at the Future Makers Studio, where inmates expressed the significance of the day through creative drawings and themed designs.

Additionally, Dr Othman Mohammed from the Dubai Police Health Centre delivered a health awareness lecture, while dialogue sessions focused on self-care were held in collaboration with the Community Development Authority.
