Abu Dhabi: Abu Dhabi has unveiled the Al Maryah Waterfront project — a bold and innovative development designed to boost the city’s tourism appeal. The new attraction will blend cutting-edge technology, modern design, and cultural expression, anchored by a stunning 30-meter luminous sphere surrounded by 1,000 AI-powered water jets, choreographed to music.

Mubadala Investment Company PJSC (Mubadala) officially launched the Al Maryah Waterfront enhancement project on Sunday. The initiative aims to redefine the lifestyle and entertainment offerings on Al Maryah Island while strengthening Abu Dhabi’s reputation as a world-class destination.

At the centerpiece of the development is a 30-meter-tall illuminated sphere, wrapped in cascading water and situated within the bay. This dramatic installation is surrounded by over 1,000 AI-driven water jets that shoot water up to 75 meters in sync with a musical score composed by award-winning musician Ramin Djawadi. The entire water feature is being designed by WET, a global leader in innovative water-based installations.

Additional features of the Al Maryah Waterfront project include:

• An extended boardwalk, allowing visitors to enjoy direct access to the water’s edge
• A shaded outdoor cooling system for enhanced comfort during hot weather
• New food and beverage zones and versatile public spaces ideal for hosting events

The groundbreaking ceremony was led by Waleed Al Mokarrab Al Muhairi, Deputy Group CEO of Mubadala, and Dr. Bakheet Al Katheeri, CEO of UAE Investments. Together, they marked the beginning of construction on this transformational project.

Upon completion, the Al Maryah Waterfront will become a vibrant and immersive public space, attracting international tourists, enriching Abu Dhabi’s tourism landscape, and offering top-tier opportunities for cultural, recreational, and commercial activities.

This initiative forms part of Mubadala’s broader vision to support Abu Dhabi’s evolution into a sustainable, globally competitive, and future-ready urban center.
