Sheikh Mohammed Unveils New Floating Dubai Landmark—The Dubai Arts Museum (Duma)
- October 26, 2025
Dubai: Dubai is set to welcome a stunning new landmark that will literally float over the water. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, announced the launch of the Dubai Arts Museum (Duma) on Friday, sharing images and videos of the upcoming project on social platform X.
The museum will be built on an island in the heart of Dubai Creek, further strengthening Dubai’s reputation as a global centre for art and creativity. “Duma reflects Dubai’s civilisation and spirit, serving as a mirror of its culture and arts,” Sheikh Mohammed said. “The museum will add new diversity to Dubai’s landmarks and enhance the city’s architectural beauty.”
Designed to float gracefully above the waters of Dubai Creek, Duma draws inspiration from natural elements — water, sky, wind, and light. Its form symbolises a shell and pearl, paying tribute to Dubai’s pearl-diving heritage.
The architectural marvel is the work of acclaimed Japanese architect Tadao Ando, celebrated for his minimalist concrete designs that seamlessly blend light, shadow, and nature.
The five-storey museum will feature exhibitions showcasing both renowned and emerging artists. It will also include a library for learning and training, a restaurant, café, and artistic viewing spaces overlooking the creek. More than a museum, Duma aims to become a global cultural hub, a place where people from around the world gather to experience creativity, innovation, and artistic expression.
Sheikh Mohammed also praised Emirati businessman Abdullah Al Futtaim and his son Omar Al Futtaim for their contribution to developing the new landmark. He described Duma as a shining example of the private sector’s commitment to Dubai’s growth and cultural enrichment.
“Cities defined by art and culture thrive through strong economies and achieve lasting sustainability when the private sector acts responsibly alongside the public sector,” Sheikh Mohammed said. “This is what we see in Dubai.”
