Dubai: Organised by the Dubai Police General Department of Criminal Investigation (CID), the UAE’s second community policing forum kicked off earlier today (Thursday) at Jumeirah Mina A'Salam Hotel with the aim of highlighting the importance of maintaining a positive relationship between law enforcement agencies and relevant government institutions to reach outputs that support and enhance the role of community police in maintaining security.

 

Operating under the motto “International Best Practices in the Field of Community Policing”, the forum was attended by His Excellency Expert Major General Khalil Ibrahim Al Mansouri, Assistant Commander-in-Chief for Criminal Investigation Affairs at Dubai Police; His Excellency Major General Jamal Al Jalaf, Director of the General Department of Criminal Investigation (CID); Brigadier Khalid bin Muwaiza, Acting Director of the General Department of Anti-Narcotics, and Brigadier Muhammad Aqeel Ahli, Deputy Director of the General Department of Criminal Investigation for Search and Investigation Affairs.

 

It was also attended by an elite of senior police officers from the Ministry of Interior and police agencies in UAE, directors of the general departments and police stations from Dubai police, and officials from the Community Development Authority (CDA) and Dubai Municipality, public and private sector partners.

 

In his opening speech, Major General Jamal Al Jalaf reaffirmed that the Community Police demonstrated tangible progress and positive influence on society by reinforcing the values of tolerance, coexistence, giving, and volunteering among community members. "It also has a prominent role in consolidating the security culture and raising awareness against negative phenomena, which contributes to achieving the Dubai Police's strategic directions in maintaining security and stability in society," he added. 

 

Maj. Gen. Al Jalaf extended his thanks to the police commands and all partners for their presence and keenness to activate the role of community police among members of the public. 

 

Maj. Gen. Al Jalaf indicated that Community Police contributes to strengthening police-community relations, building effective bridges of communication through multiple channels, and engaging various segments of society in maintaining security. This comes as part of Dubai Police's belief in the shared responsibility of enhancing security and stability and the importance of solidarity between all entities and individuals to ensure a prosperous, peaceful, and secure life. 

 

He further pointed out that Dubai Community Police plays a significant role in spreading the security culture among the public, providing the best services, and raising awareness on tackling crime and reporting it. "The Community Police also implemented various events, programmes, lectures, courses, and activities targeting all segments of society," Al Jalaf explained.

 

The forum discussed several axes, including best practices and global initiatives in the field of community policing, common themes in community policing at the international level, and the societal role in the Emirate of Dubai. 

 

The forum has also highlighted the "Policeman in Your Neighborhood" initiative, as one of the community policing platforms, in which Dubai Police's officer acts as a liaison between Dubai citizens and residents and the General Command of the Dubai Police, to monitor and solve problems in residential areas.
