Dubai Police issues 28,027 Fines for Jaywalking and seizes 15,029 Scooters Over the Past 5 Months

Dubai: His Excellency Major General Saif Muhair Al Mazrouei, Acting Assistant Commandant for Operations at Dubai Police, declared that jaywalking and the unsafe use of e-scooters have resulted in 13 fatalities in the first five months of this year, including nine deaths from jaywalking and four from improper scooter use. He also indicated that most incidents occurred in busy, high-traffic areas, which reflects the serious risks these behaviours pose to road safety.

Al Mazrouei highlighted that traffic enforcement teams at the General Department of Traffic in Dubai Police recorded 28,027 violations related to crossing at unauthorised areas during the same period. “They also confiscated 15,029 scooters for not adhering to traffic laws, including riding in non-designated areas, by unqualified individuals, or without proper safety gear like helmets.”

Dangerous Practices
He explained that these statistics highlight ongoing negative behaviours that directly threaten road users, noting that jaywalking and unsafe use of e-scooters are significant challenges to traffic safety, particularly in busy, densely populated areas.

Al Mazrouei remarked, "These figures reflect the continued presence of dangerous practices that jeopardize lives, whether by ignoring designated pedestrian crossings or riding scooters on inappropriate roads without safety measures like helmets. Additionally, some violations involved scooter use by unqualified individuals or those under the legal age, which increases the risk of accidents."

Shared Responsibility
Al Mazrouei reconfirmed that Dubai Police, in cooperation with the Roads and Transport Authority, is actively conducting awareness and educational campaigns to enhance traffic awareness among all community members, especially youth and visitors in commercial and residential areas, to foster a culture of law compliance and ensure everyone's safety.

He emphasized that traffic safety is a shared community responsibility, indicating that non-compliance with laws can lead to more than just fines; it can result in tragic consequences, as seen in recent incidents.

Furthermore, Al Mazrouei urged community members to use pedestrian bridges and designated crossings and follow guidelines for e-scooter use, which will help improve traffic flow and protect lives.

Reporting Channels
He also encouraged the community to collaborate with police by reporting dangerous driving behaviours through the "Police Eye" service in the Dubai Police app or by calling the "We Are All Police" hotline at 901.
