Abu Dhabi: Dr Deepak Mittal has been appointed as the next Ambassador of India to the United Arab Emirates, according to an official statement released by the Ministry of External Affairs of India. He is expected to assume the post shortly, marking a significant diplomatic shift in India’s representation in the Gulf region.

Dr Mittal previously served as the Ambassador of India to Qatar, where he began his diplomatic assignment in August 2020. During his time in Doha, he earned widespread recognition for fostering strong India-Qatar relations and for his active engagement with the Indian expatriate community. His tenure was noted for effective communication and strategic collaborations in trade, culture, and health initiatives.

A member of the 1998 batch of the Indian Foreign Service, Dr Mittal brings with him over two decades of experience in diplomatic service. Over the years, he has held various important roles within the Ministry of External Affairs and other Indian missions abroad. His appointment to the UAE, a key partner of India in the Gulf, is being seen as a continuation of India’s commitment to strengthening bilateral ties across sectors including energy, trade, tourism, and technology.

The UAE is home to one of the largest Indian expatriate populations, and Dr Mittal’s prior experience in the Gulf is expected to help him navigate regional dynamics with familiarity and depth. The Indian Embassy in Abu Dhabi will likely see a new phase of diplomacy under his leadership.
